GOVERNOR BARBOUR SETS HOUSE SPECIAL ELECTIONS FOR DECEMBER 19

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour has called special elections on December 19 to fill two vacancies in the state House of Representatives, where incumbents resigned after being elected to other positions.

Governor Barbour said the special elections would be held in House District 100 (Jefferson Davis, Lamar and Marion counties), where incumbent state Rep. Virginia Carlton was elected to the Mississippi Court of Appeals, and in House District 101 (Forrest and Lamar counties), where incumbent state Rep. Joey Fillingane was elected to the state Senate.

Runoffs, if necessary, will be held January 2, 2007, the day the 2007 legislative session convenes.
