LANE TO SERVE AS LEGAL COUNSEL TO GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR

 

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Attorney Colby Lane of Brandon has been named Counsel to the Governor, it was announced today.

 

“I am delighted to have Colby on board,” Governor Haley Barbour said. “He is extremely well-qualified for this position, and I am confident his legal counsel will be beneficial to both my administration and the people of Mississippi.”

 

Prior to joining Governor Barbour’s staff, Lane, 32, was employed at the Jackson-based United States Attorney’s Office, where he served as Assistant United States Attorney. During this time, Lane was the District Anti-Gang Prosecutor and prosecuted both white-collar and violent criminals. His additional legal experience includes working as an associate with Wilmer, Cutler, and Pickering in Washington, D.C., where his responsibilities included venture capital transactions, structured acquisitions, and securities offerings, as well as federal civil litigation.

 

Lane graduated magna cum laude from Millsaps College with a bachelor’s degree in economics and earned his juris doctorate from Harvard Law School, where he served as senior editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy. He has been admitted into the Bars of Mississippi, District Courts for the Southern District of Mississippi and the District of Columbia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

 

Within his community, Lane serves as membership chair of the Rankin County Rotary Club and is a member of the Millsaps College Arts & Lecture Series board of directors. He and his wife, Erin, have one son, Patten.
