National Society of Black Engineers presents: STEMapalooza!
Charleston, SC – The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Charleston Professionals will host the inaugural STEMapalooza on Saturday, October 12, 2019 on the Upper Peninsula Charleston. The event will be co-hosted by Charleston Women in Tech and held at one of the first software companies that sparked Charleston’s fast growing tech sector, BoomTown! at 1505 King St., Suite 101, Charleston, SC from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m
The goal of STEMapalooza is to increase awareness of the opportunities available through Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM). Kid friendly, fun, and exciting STEM activities will be showcased during the event. Industry leading tech companies and STEM organizations based in the Charleston tri-county region will assist NSBE with “STEMulating” the minds of k-12 students.
NSBE has set a primary goal of increasing the annual number of African-Americans who receive STEM degrees to 10,000 by the year 2025. STEMapalooza will move NSBE closer towards this goal and serve to encourage and inspire African American students to achieve academic excellence in STEM. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”
