The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission invites trail runners to mark their calendars and start training! On Saturday, Oct. 14 the Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K returns to scenic Johns Island County Park.
Runners will have a chance to embrace the breathtaking fall foliage, moss-draped oaks and native wildlife as they make their way through beautiful Johns Island trails. Races are offered for two distances: a half marathon and a 5K. Both the Half Marathon and 5K events will begin at 8:30 a.m.Spectators are welcome.
Registration for the Half Marathon is $40, and registration for the 5K is $28. Move It passholders can receive discounted registration for the half marathon and 5K of $32 and $22 respectively. Post-race beverages and live music are included.
Online registration for the Lowcountry Trail Half Marathon and 5K is available at CharlestonCountyParks.com and will end at 3 p.m. on Oct. 13. Walk-up registration will be accepted on race morning from 7 – 8 a.m. T-shirts will be guaranteed for runners who register prior to Sept. 14.
Want to hone your running skills on the trails? Sign up for Charleston County Parks’ 5K run clinics! Participants in the program will develop their skills by running or walking on scenic trails at either Johns Island County Park or Palmetto Islands County Park in Mount Pleasant with experienced trail run coaches. Twice-weekly sessions starting Sept. 11 will focus on mental and physical endurance, form, agility and cross-training. Participants will finish up the program by running in the Lowcountry Trail 5K race Oct. 14. Race fees are included in program registration.
The race is open to ages 10 and up. Ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone (registration and participation not required for chaperone).
Johns Island County Park, the site of Mullet Hall Equestrian Center, is located at 2662 Mullet Hall Road, just off of River Road. The park and is owned and operated by the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission.
