Lowcountry Orphan Relief Hosts Annual Gala Benefiting Abandoned And Abused Children

Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Inc. – a local non-profit organization that provides two weeks of clothing and school supplies to meet the needs of at-risk, abandoned, abused, and neglected children – will be hosting their 3rd Annual Fundraiser Gala at The Charleston Marriott in the Crystal Ballroom on Saturday, September 16th from 7:00pm-11:00pm. In 2016, Lowcountry Orphan Relief (LOR) clothed 2,660 children in the community and the annual event ensures the group is able to continue to help thousands of children each year.

This year’s theme is Moulin Rouge and will feature a decadent “champagne dress lady” who will welcome each guest as they arrive. Attendees will sip on champagne, enjoy an open bar, experience live can-can dancers, play blackjack at game tables, dance, and participate in both live and silent auctions.

LOR founder, Lynn Young will be giving a special presentation on her passion behind the organization, informing attendees of the desperate need for the organization’s efforts in the Lowcountry. “We intervene at critical junctures in the lives of these children, with products and services that provide a strong, positive impact,” Young shares. “We want to make sure these children feel safe and comfortable, despite their current situation.”

Carving stations and southern appetizers will be served as guests mingle with new and old friends. Lowcountry Live reporter and local celebrity, Tom Crawford, will be the event’s auctioneer and host the live auction which will include generously donated items such as Delta International Airline tickets, a 10 bedroom beach house of Folly Beach, tickets to the American Music Awards, and more!

“LOR provides foster parents with much needed financial relief. By providing us with the items that we need right away, we’re released from the burden of having to go out ourselves. There is so much that goes on in your home when a child is first placed with you. The support that Lowcountry Orphan Relief provides, gives us the ability, as foster parents, to truly focus on the kids,” offers Carrie, local foster parent.

Since 2006, Lowcountry Orphan Relief has clothed over 22,000 children in the Tri-County area. LOR uses more than 76% of all monetary contributions to provide for the children’s needs. Presently, community volunteers at their Distribution Center in North Charleston are collecting and shelving donations in addition to filling orders for each child from area shelters, foster care, and those removed from the custody of their parents. The organization’s promise is that children receive clothing, toiletries, books and school supplies within 48 hours of being safely removed from their homes.
