Gay Bingo is back with a Broadway theme and even more entertainment and fun – all while raising money for Lowcountry AIDS Services and its work fighting the HIV epidemic the Charleston community. This marquee fundraiser, presented by Avita Pharmacy, is set for 6-10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at Memminger Auditorium, 56 Beaufain St. in Charleston.
This year’s theme is: The Show Must Go On: Best of Broadway, a celebration of an important aspect of LGBT life for many – musical theater. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be given for best dressed table, best dressed individual, best dressed couple/duo along with a prize for most surprising take on the theme.
“We want to see people dress to the nines as the ‘Phantom of the Opera’ or go full on ‘Chicago’ flapper. We want some serious red carpet realness and would love some period pieces from ‘Les Miserable’ or ‘1776.’ We are excited to see what everyone pulls together for the evening,” says Jason Kirk, director of development and marketing for LAS.
Gay Bingo, where the winner is never a straight line and everyone has a ball, will feature a special musical theater performance along with five games of bingo with fabulous prize packages. Returning as the hostess is Patti O’Furniture, the “Camp Queen of the Carolinas,” who performs regularly at Dudley’s on Ann in downtown Charleston.
General admission tickets are $25 and VIP tickets are $50 each. A VIP reserved table for 10 is $500 so gather some friends and come ready to have a ball.
