Did you know that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner? Currently, South Carolina ranks sixth in the nation for the amount of homicides caused by domestic violence. How can our community recover from and prevent domestic violence? Interested members of the community are invited to join us in a safe space to learn how to help and heal. CCPL, in partnership with local advocates from the North Charleston Police Department and the non-profit women’s shelter, My Sister’s House, present an evening of discussion, dialogue and community support. Advocates will share their personal experiences of domestic violence and abuse, including lessons learned, resources on how to identify and confront abusive situations, and the role of the community in response to domestic/intimate partner violence. Additionally, counselors from My Sister’s House Counselors will be available to offer one-on-one support at this event.
