Saul Alexander Gallery Call for Submissions

South Carolina artists and craftsmen are encouraged to submit portfolios to be considered for upcoming public exhibition at Main Library. A jury of local art professionals will review all submissions. Those accepted will be scheduled to exhibit for one month during 2018 or early 2019. For more information about the application process, please visit www.ccpl.org/gallery.

Silver Linings by Rachel Jones Barns

Rachel Jones Barns uses selective realism and various layering techniques to create narrative portraiture in oils, watercolors and acrylics. Silver Linings is an expanding body of work that attempts to examine the multiple layers of relationships. These painted snapshots display comfortable silences, tender moments, regrets, realizations and connective energies.

South Carolina History Series: Escaping Slavery in Early South Carolina (teens and adults)

Tens of thousands of Africans were brought to early South Carolina to work as enslaved laborers, but a small percentage of that number managed to find a path to freedom before the abolition of slavery in 1865. Join CCPL’s historian, Dr. Nic Butler, for an exploration of various ways and means used to escape slavery, and learn about specific men and women who found freedom in early South Carolina.
