Born in Augusta, Georgia, in 1956, John Daso is a self-taught folk artist depicting rural African American culture, portraying truth through realism.

Daso has exhibited at the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History, Augusta, Georgia; the Colombian Museum; the Cotton Museum in Bishopville, South Carolina; the National NAACP Convention; the Plaza Hotel in New York City; and S.C. Museum of Art in Columbia.

Daso’s artwork is in the permanent collection of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and in the collections of President Barack Obama, President George Bush, Oprah Winfrey, and Julian Bond.
