The Charleston County Public Library offers the following free programs in June for children, teens and adults.
Book on Downtown Scavenger Hunt
Throughout June
All CCPL branches
Participate in the Book on Downtown scavenger hunt throughout June to win prizes and learn about people who have made a difference in the world. Pick up a scorecard at any CCPL branch, or visit www.ccpl.org to download a copy. Follow the provided map, and enter the names of people featured on the Book On Downtown posters displayed at various businesses in downtown Charleston. Completed entries are due by June 30. Multiple prizes will be awarded, and one lucky winner will receive $100 from the Charleston Friends of the Library. One entry is permitted per person, and winners will be selected randomly from submitted entry forms with the most correct answers. Follow CCPL on Facebook (facebook.com/ChasCoLibrary) and Twitter (twitter.com/ChasCoLibrary) to learn about extra chances to win.
For those unable to participate in the scavenger hunt downtown, this year you can join the fun online for a chance to win prizes. Visit www.ccpl.org to download the scorecard for the online version of Book on Downtown. Literary Gibbes: A Book Club Discussion

Join a collaborative book discussion with CCPL and the Gibbes Museum. The discussion will focus on Untamed: The Wildest Woman in America and the Fight for Cumberland Island by Will Harlan, inspired by Artist, Scientist, Explorer: Mark Catesby in the Carolinas and Out of the Wild: Animals in Contemporary Art. Carol Ruckdeschel, a self-taught scientist and sea turtle expert, has been a resident and defender of Cumberland Island, a national park along the Georgia coast, for more than 40 years. Will Harlan profiles this inspiring yet controversial naturalist in Untamed. Participation in the book discussion is free but does not include museum admission. A brief presentation about Mark Catesby and contemporary artists will precede the discussion, which will focus on the book and works in the exhibitions.
