(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour has appointed Carl L. Nicholson, of Hattiesburg, to the State Board of Health, which governs the Mississippi Department of Health by providing policy direction for the agency.


“I am proud Carl has accepted this important assignment. The Mississippi Department of Health provides some of state government’s most fundamental and necessary services, and Carl will be a great asset to help the board accomplish its mission of ensuring health services are delivered to Mississippians,” Governor Barbour said.


Nicholson is president of Nicholson and Co., PLLC, where he has worked for 30 years. He is past president and member of the Board of Trustees of Institutions of Higher Learning, which is responsible for policy and financial oversight of the state’s eight public institutions of higher learning. Nicholson was chairman of the Hattiesburg Area Development Partnership and has also served as vice president of Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC), an organization founded by Mississippi business and professional leaders to supply political research information.


Nicholson is a graduate of Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He and his wife, Martha, have been married 11 years.
