(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour has appointed Elayne H. Anthony, Ph.D., of Madison, to the State Board of Health, which governs the Mississippi Department of Health by providing policy direction for the agency.


“The Mississippi Department of Health provides some of state government’s most fundamental and necessary services. I am proud Dr. Anthony has accepted this important assignment, and I look forward to her good works on this board to ensure health services are delivered to Mississippians,” Governor Barbour said.


Dr. Anthony is a professor and chairman of the Department of Communication at Belhaven College, where she has worked since 1998. Previously she was assistant superintendent of education for Jackson Public Schools for seven years and also served as the head of the Department of Mass Communications at Jackson State University for 10 years. In addition, Dr. Anthony is president of Cybernostic Healthcare Services, Inc., and president and chief executive officer of the Work Ethic Jackson. She received a public service award from the Mississippi Mental Health Association in 1977.


A graduate of Jackson State University, Dr. Anthony holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and a master degree in educational technology from the institution. She earned a doctoral degree in organizational communication from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. Dr. Anthony and her husband, Eddie, have one son, William.
