GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS BLESSEY TO VOLUNTEER SERVICES COMMISSION

(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Katherine Blessey, of Biloxi, to the Volunteer Services Commission. The mission of the MVSC is to engage and support Mississippians of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities.

“Katherine has a true commitment to serving others,” Governor Barbour said. “She has a passion for community service, and I am confident she will be a great asset to the people of Mississippi as we continue to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.”

Blessey is retired and currently serves as an active member of her community. She is a board member of Coast for Kids and the Gulf Coast Symphony. Blessey also holds membership in the Biloxi Bay Chamber, Bilikins, Gulf Coast Carnival Association, Gulf Coast Symphony Guild, and Biloxi Lions Club.

She graduated from Perkinston Junior College in 1965 with an associate’s degree in art. Blessey and her husband, Walter, have three children and four grandchildren.
