(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Jeff Wells, of Jackson, to the Governor’s Commission on Physical Fitness and Sports. This commission works to promote and improve the fitness of all Mississippians through regular participation in cardiovascular activities, such as sports.

“Jeff has an extensive background in physical fitness training and education. I am confident he will serve the citizens of Mississippi well,” Governor Barbour said.

Wells holds five U.S. Patents and is the owner of Fleet Feet Sports, which he opened in February of 2002. He received the Fleet Feet Rookie of the Year award in 2004 and the Induna Award in 2006. Wells graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

An avid runner for 30 years, Wells has logged approximately 50,000 miles and completed 27 marathons, including the Boston marathon. He is currently training for Comrades Ultra Marathon, a 54-miler held in South Africa.
