On the Retirement of Colonel Marvin Curtis

Colonel Marvin Curtis, Chief of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, has retired after a long and distinguished career during which he rose from an entry level trooper to chief of the state’s largest law enforcement agency. Marvin is an upright, devoutly religious man who recently became an ordained minister.

While his letter of retirement doesn’t go into it, he has said publicly he feels the call to devote more of his time to his work in the ministry. I not only respect his calling; I admire it.

I know he will do a great amount of good for many people as well as for his community as he pursues his calling as a man of the cloth. I have instructed Commissioner George Phillips to appoint an interim Chief and to begin an internal search for a successor to Chief Curtis.
