STATE WORKERS TO RECEIVE LEAVE WITH PAY (Jackson, Miss.) – Governor Haley Barbour today gave state agency heads the authority to grant administrative leave with pay to state employees affected by Hurricane Katrina. Using his statutory authority, the governor has asked all agency directors to determine on a case-by-case, statewide basis, whether or not to grant non-essential employees “administrative leave” with pay. “Some state employees don’t even have a building or structure to go to every day,” Governor Barbour said. “It is our hope that this will provide some relief to our employees on the coast and south Mississippi, and help ensure that the State of Mississippi retains its workforce.” State employees should look to their agency director for information and instructions regarding administrative leave for employees affected by Hurricane Katrina. These employees will remain on administrative leave with pay until the agency head determines when the employee will return to work. ###
