FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR SETS SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES VACANCY (Jackson, Miss.) – Governor Haley Barbour set Tuesday, March 22, 2005, as the date for a Special Election to fill the current vacancy in the Mississippi State House of Representatives (House District 105) as a result of State Representative Randy “Bubba” Pierce’s resignation effective February 25, 2005. “Whenever a vacancy occurs, it becomes my duty to issue a Writ of Election,” said Governor Barbour. “Voters in Forrest, George, Greene, Perry, and Wayne counties need to be alerted to this Special Election and fill this post as soon as possible.” Randy “Bubba” Pierce, of Leakesville, was appointed by Governor Barbour to the Mississippi Chancery Court (16th District) representing Jackson, George, and Greene counties. Pierce, a Democrat, served in the House of Representatives for more than five years and has been Chairman of the Education Committee. If a runoff election is required, it will be held April 5, 2005.
