A Proclamation

WHEREAS, the unique beauty and diversity of our native trees provide a powerful impression to visitors, and lifelong memories for residents; and

WHEREAS, Mississippi’s forest resource promotes economic development, supplies jobs, protects the environment, and provides abundant opportunities for recreation; and

WHEREAS, our urban forests increase property values, mitigate the effects of pollution, provide for serenity and relaxation, beautify the landscape, and reduce energy consumption by shading and cooling our dwellings and businesses; and

WHEREAS, trees make our quality of life so special and have the power to reduce stress and help people heal:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, do hereby proclaim February 13th, 2004 as


in the State of Mississippi, AND I DO FURTHER PROCLAIM the period of time from February 13th through February 20th, 2004 as


in the State of Mississippi and urge all citizens to plant a tree.
