Ridgeville, SC resident, Nefateri Smalls introduces a full-featured film on how she overcame abuse. This film highlights issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, and mental illness in a family-friendly manner that will get your whole family talking! Though this story is told from one young woman’s point of view – her story quickly becomes everyone’s story. She invites others into her life of tragedies and triumphs in hopes to propel healing, restoration, and forgiveness starting from within. You may laugh, you will cry, but you too will Escape To Tell!
This film introduces you to author, Nefateri Pecou Smalls. She was raised in Hartsville, South Carolina. While growing up she endured many hardships that stemmed from a broken childhood and past. However, in spite of these hurdles, she has been blessed to release two books, established her own non-profit (Healing Hurts©), as well as become a leading community activist and Certified Victim’s Advocate for prevention and recovery of childhood abuse. Her first book was an autobiography entitled Cries from Within, and the second was an inspirational entitled Identity Chasers.
This Christian-based film sheds light on several issues that have plagued many and parallels the accounts disclosed in her first bookCries from Within. Though the accounts are not pleasurable, the film portrays each event with care and consideration. Mrs. Smalls along with her husband has had the wonderful privilege of corresponding and meeting with many city officials who ALL have offered their support and service in shooting this film – including Hartsville’s Mayor Mel Pennington.
