FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR APPOINTS GAGE (Jackson, Miss.) - Governor Haley Barbour appointed Howell "Hal" N. Gage, of Vicksburg, to the State Board of Education today. This action fills the vacancy for the first district Supreme Court representative post on the nine-member board. Mr. Gage's term will expire on June 20, 2007. "I am very proud of this appointment, and I know Hal will do an excellent job in serving the citizens of Mississippi. He is a former President and Vice President of the Vicksburg-Warren School District Board of Trustees," said Governor Haley Barbour. "Education is the number one economic development and quality of life issue in our state; therefore, it is the number one priority for state government. Hal's expertise and his experience as a local School Board President will be vital in helping shape our education initiatives for the future." Mr. Gage is currently the Chairman of RiverHills Bank in Vicksburg and has been in the banking industry for 30 years. He is a graduate of the George Institute of Technology and Harvard University, where he earned his MBA. He is an Advisory Director of the Hinds Community College Foundation and the Mississippi Center for Nonprofits. "I am very honored that Governor Barbour selected me to serve," said Gage. "I am looking forward to working with the Board to advance student achievement in Mississippi."
