FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FIRST LADY MARSHA BARBOUR RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FROM (Jackson, Miss.)--First Lady Marsha Barbour received the first-ever Youth Leadership Award today from Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) a national non-profit organization that assists states in high school dropout prevention. "I accept this award on behalf of the citizens of Mississippi who diligently work with our young people and encourage them to stay in school," said Marsha Barbour. "I commend JAG for their continued efforts in tackling dropout rates, low academic performance, and other critical issues related to our at-risk youth. I am honored to be a part of this effort." The First Lady was recognized by JAG Board Vice Chair Julie Nixon Eisenhower at a dinner in Washington D.C. with hundreds of attendees. "Mississippi has a strong program and we wanted to thank Mrs. Barbour for being such an integral part of our efforts," said Barbara Wolf, Vice President of Jobs for America's Graduates. "This award is a small token for her hard work and dedication, and we look forward to our continuing partnership." JAG's mission is to deliver a unique set of services to at-risk and disadvantaged youth in high schools, including 12 months of post-graduation follow-up services that will result in the graduate pursuing a postsecondary education and/or entering the workforce in a quality job leading to a career.
