GOVERNOR BARBOUR TOURS CSC’S SHARED SERVICE CENTER TO SUPPORT BID FOR NASA SHARED SERVICE CENTER IN STENNIS
--Center Would Bring Hundreds of Jobs to Mississippi—

(Jackson, Miss.) – Governor Barbour visited Computer Sciences Corporation’s (CSC) U.S. Shared Service Center in Sterling, Va., last Friday to tour the facilities and catch a glimpse of the center’s day-to-day workings. If the Mississippi bid for the NASA Shared Service Center in Stennis proves successful for CSC and its partner, Lockheed Martin Corp., a facility providing the same types of human resources, payroll and administrative support for NASA employees would bring hundreds of jobs to Mississippi.

The Governor’s visit began with a presentation by CSC’s Shared Service Center director Larry Mechner, who described the operations and scope of the center, which handles payroll, human resources and administrative needs for more than 38,000 U.S.-based CSC employees. “We established our center in 1997, so we understand the best practices of the Shared Services model both from a development standpoint and a user standpoint,” said Mechner.

After the presentation, the Governor took a guided tour of the center, stopping to speak with employees and learn more about their roles, responsibilities and skills.

“The partnership between the state of Mississippi and CSC creates the best value for NASA and the American taxpayer,” said the Governor. “Mississippi’s skilled and educated workforce is the perfect fit for NASA’s Shared Services needs, and CSC is a top high-tech company with a track record of superior results for government agencies. CSC’s Shared Service Center expertise, understanding of NASA procedures, and quality business partners such as Lockheed Martin, can create and run the most successful Shared Services operation for NASA.”
