GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS PORTER TO MISSISSIPPI HOME CORPORATION BOARD (Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Charles Porter, of Brandon, to the Mississippi Home Corporation (MHC) board. The mission of the MHC is to provide every Mississippi with an opportunity for safe, decent affordable housing. “I know Charles is well-qualified for this position,” Governor Barbour said. “He has years of home and business corporation experience and will serve the people of Mississippi well.” Porter started his own business, Porter Construction, Inc., in 1984 and previously worked as an estimator for Bullock Construction Company. He has overseen and developed numerous projects, including Sage Hills, Pecan Ridge, Wildwood Place, and Timbercrest subdivisions. Porter has built about 325 homes in Hinds County and Rankin County, as well as five commercial office complexes. Porter is a licensed commercial contractor, real estate broker, home builder, and certified professional builder. He was president of Home Builders Association of Jackson and was selected as the 1995 “Builder of the Year.” Porter served on both the Home Builders Association of Mississippi Build Pac and the National Home Builders Association board of directors in 2002. He is past president of the Home Builders Association of Mississippi and the Mississippi Housing Institute. In 1981, Porter received an associate’s degree in business administration from Hinds Community College. He is married to the former Cherri Roberts; together, they have two children: Matt, 20, and Cady, 8.
