Governor Barbour Appoints Stokes to Greenville Port Commission (Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of David L. Stokes, of Hollandale, to the Greenville Port Commission. This commission maintains, operates, and oversees the Port of Greenville. “David will do an excellent job serving the people of Mississippi,” said Governor Barbour. “He understands the value of the Port of Greenville to the area’s economy and will serve successfully on this commission.” David L. Stokes is the retired Owner and President of Stokes Towing Company, Inc., a business that employs approximately 150 river towboats on the Mississippi, Ohio, and Illinois Rivers. Throughout his career, Stokes has also worked as the Port Captain for Delta Barge Cargo from 1983 to 1985; Deckhand, Mate, Pilot, and Engineer for Port City Towing Company and Port City Barge Line, Inc., from 1956 to 1982; and Deckhand for the Vest Towing Company in 1955. Additionally, he worked on a farm from 1955 to 1956. Stokes attended Glen Allan High School and is now married with five daughters. ###
