Daniel Island Community Fund Sponsors Field Trips to the Children's Museum

First grade teacher, Jessica Coates, with one of her students in CML's Pirate Ship.

The Daniel Island Community Fund (DICF) generously sponsored a total of four field trips for more than 185 Cainhoy Elementary pre-kindergarten through third graders this fall at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry (CML). DCIF not only gave these students the opportunity to learn and explore at the Museum but also provided lunch and transportation for all attendees. As a Title One School, Cainhoy Elementary educates a high percentage of low-income students.

The last of the four field trips will be tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, at the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry.

The Daniel Island Community Fund was created to award grants to organizations that provide service within its geographic service area, which includes Daniel Island, St. Thomas Island and the various communities that make up the Cainhoy Peninsula. In order to receive funding from the DICF, the Children's Museum demonstrated that DICF funding would directly benefit the Cainhoy service area.

The students were certainly excited about their field trip. "CML provides my students with a wonderful chance to simply explore," said Jessica Coates, first grade teacher at Cainhoy Elementary. "This field trip to the Museum offers opportunities for exposure beyond school and community, which is beneficial to all students. They particularly loved the Art Room where we made play dough. The best part was that they got to take the recipe home with them!"

"I was the lucky one who got to book the field trips for the pre-kindergarten through third grade students at Cainhoy Elementary, provided by the Daniel Island Community Fund, which is distinguished by its generous support of the community it serves," said Starr Jordan, Director of Education at CML.  "CML prides itself on surprising visitors every day and making their experiences more memorable.  Having the Daniel Island Community Fund help us improve educational opportunities this fall by providing these field trips to the Cainhoy students is something these children and teachers will never forget."
