Murray’s Meat Market To Open New East Cooper Store, Add New Seafood Line

Since 1972 Ernest Murray and his family have owned and operated a local meat market that has become renowned. In its several incarnations and expansions, the business has been located on the Charleston peninsula. Next month Murray will open Murray’s Links And Sausages-East at 2500-E Clements Ferry Rd. near the Cainhoy, Huger and Daniels Island communities.

Since opening his first store on Cannon Street, the business has grown to become a staple in the provision of meats, especially those essential to ‘soul food’ cuisine.

Over the years the business has expanded its line of products making it a full service meat market that carries “everything from the rooter to the tooter - all cuts of beef, pork and chicken, seafood, lamb and goat meat. Anything our customers want we can get,” Murray says.

The business also carries an extensive variety of specialty sausages and links, including its exclusive Blacktalian Sausage, and a limited line of groceries, seasonings and meat rubs.

Murray says those products also will be available at the new 1,400 sq.ft. East Cooper store located in the complex that is anchored by the Goodwill store near Bojangles restaurant.

There is easy access to the store from S.C. Hwy. 526. It initially will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Murray anticipates the store’s opening hours’ eventually will expand to five days weekly.

Murray hopes to attract new customers with his line of links and sausages.

“That’s been the driving force behind our business and we expect those products to do well in that community,” he said. The line includes sausage and link products in patties, finger links, regular and 6-inch rolls and ropes.

He expects his line of fresh seafood - oysters, crabs, crabmeat and salmon also will attract new customers. Murray emphasizes that he can accommodate special orders in addition to the variety products sold in economic meat packages.

Murray will continue offering his products at the business’ location at 1667 Meeting Street Road which opened in 2005. Customers may remember his most famous location at 614 Rutledge Ave. which he operated some 27 years.

Murray says the business will continues its tradition at 2500-E Clements Ferry Rd.
