Race Relations
Do you think that race relations in the United States will improve in 2015?
Ultramarathon set for Nov. 21 at Laurel Hill County Park in Mount Pleasant - Ultra Chili 50K
10/12/2015 4:17:58 PM

Charleston County Parks is introducing a new trail race with a distinguishing feature that very few races in South Carolina have – extreme distance. The inaugural Ultra Chili 50K ultramarathon race will be held at Laurel Hill County Park on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The ultramarathon is a race distance longer than that of a marathon. The Ultra Chili race will be 50K in length, which equates to approximately 31 miles. Marathon races are 26 miles in length. The continuous loop 50K course is open to individuals as well as teams of two to four participants.

Think you have what it takes to run the distance? Registration is open now. The Ultra Chili 50K will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. The race will take runners through the majestic moss-draped trails of Laurel Hill County Park during this multi-loop race. Laurel Hill County Park is over 745 acres in size, with trails winding through a variety of landscapes that traverse an oak allee, large open meadows, a small lake, and gorgeous scenery. The park is located in Mount Pleasant near the Park West subdivision.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to enter to compete in the race. Teams must be composed of two to four participants with one team manager, and participants may compete the race in a relay style. There will be a water station every 1.5 miles on the race course stocked with water, Powerade, and gels. Following the 50K, a post-race party will feature delicious chili and beer.

In addition to finisher medals, awards will be given to individuals and teams in specific categories.

For more information on the Ultra Chili 50K and to register, visit CharlestonCountyParks.com/UltraChili. Online registration ends at 3 p.m. Nov. 20. Team managers must have all participant names confirmed prior to registering. All participants who register by Nov. 6 will receive a custom race sweatshirt.

Laurel Hill County Park is located between Highway 17N and Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant. For the Ultra Chili race, runners will enter through the special event entrance location, which is at 1400 Highway 41, and will be directed to the race start from that entrance.
