Charleston County Government’s Community Development Department is hosting a free conference, “So You Want to Start a Nonprofit?” on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at The College Center at the Complex for Economic Development at Trident Technical College (Building 920), located at 7000 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.

The conference will consist of speakers with knowledge or experience in the nonprofit community who will discuss pros and cons of starting a nonprofit organization.  Speakers from organizations around the state include South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations (SCANPO), Coastal Community Foundation, Trident United Way and Charleston County Government.

“Our office is flooded with phone calls from individuals asking how to obtain grant money for charitable projects in the county, so we thought this conference would be a good opportunity to share insights about nonprofit structure and management,” said Johnna Murray, the director of Charleston County’s Community Development Department. “We’ve invited experts in the field of nonprofit work to help answer this question- ‘Is starting a nonprofit really the answer?’”

Space is limited so interested participants are encouraged to register to the free event no later than Sept. 18 by emailing [email protected] or by calling 843-202-6960.
