Molina Healthcare To Give Away 500 Backpacks to Charleston Housing Authority

To help children in need prepare for the upcoming school year, Molina Healthcare is hosting a Back to School Fair at the Charleston Housing Authority (562 Meeting St.) on Wednesday, August 12 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The event will include giveaways, health screenings and entertainment for Charleston Housing Authority residents.

Molina Healthcare will be donating 500 backpacks and school kits, Fetter Health Clinic will be providing free health and dental screenings and Miller Motte College will offer free haircuts and face painting.

According to the annual Kids Count Survey, children in South Carolina struggle in education and economic well-being. It found 57 percent of kids are not attending preschool, 72 percent of fourth graders are not proficient in reading and 69 percent of eighth graders are not proficient in math. The survey also found 27 percent of children in the state live in poverty.
