Back to School Bash and Basketball Showcase

Saturday, Aug. 8, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Schroder Community Center (Hollywood)

CCPRC and The Parklands Foundation will host a free Back to School Bash and Basketball Showcase at Schroder Community Center, for families with school-aged children (K-12). The highlight of the event will be a coed basketball showcase, which will benefit efforts to build pools in areas like Hollywood through The Genesis Project. Other activities will include a cheerleader performance, a mascot appearance, a jump castle, sidewalk chalk art contest, haircuts, school supply giveaways, library card signups, plus music and food. Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series: Race #5 – Championship Race

Sunday, Aug. 9, 7 a.m. start

James Island County Park

Celebrating its 25th year! This is the final championship race in the annual five-race series. This race includes a .3-mile swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 5K run at James Island County Park. Participants must be comfortable swimming 600M in open water and riding a bicycle on roads open to traffic. Participants are divided into 3 divisions: Open/Elite; Age Group and Masters; and Clydesdale, Masters Clydesdale, and Athena. For details, visit CharlestonCountyParks.com/CSTS. Fee: $78.


Back to School Bash

Thursday, Aug. 13, 5 – 8 p.m.

Haut Gap Middle School Community Recreation Facility (Johns Island)

The Haut Gap Recreation Complex Back to School Bash will serve as an opportunity for parents and their children to meet some of the CCPRC Community Recreation staff, who provide recreational programming in the Johns Island community. Parents can learn about upcoming sports and programs to be offered in the fall season. Activities will be set up for children to enjoy including a jump castle and a climbing wall. Johns Island Youth Tackle Football

Participants over the 135 lbs weight limit may still play in a limited capacity. The tackle football program is intended for ages 9-11, but an 8 year old who wants to play in this division can as long as they meet the following requirements: must weigh a minimum of 70 pounds, played at least one year of organized football, parent/guardian must complete a play up Waiver Form, and must attend a skills evaluation class to determine qualification. Participants playing up will be restricted to playing secondary positions. Pre-registration required.

Participants playing up will be restricted to playing secondary positions.
