5/27/2015 12:03:27 PM

The College of Charleston Department of Mathematics and the Office of Institutional Diversity will host a “Cougar Math Achievement Program” (CMAP) summer camp from June 8-12, 2015, on the main campus of the College.
The primary goal of the program is to provide advanced math instructions to high school students from historically underrepresented groups in the field of mathematics that enrolled in Charleston County School District (CCSD).
The program will be to show students how mathematics can be used as a modeling language for real-life problems. Scheduled CMAP activities include hands-on instructions South Carolina Aquarium’s Math Trails, Behind the Scenes of the Great Ocean Tank Tour, Sea Turtle Hospital Tour, a field trip to the College of Charleston Natural Science Museum and a Career Day featuring College’s faculties staff, and alumni engaged in math education, diversity, college admissions and the STEM fields.
Minority students (i.e., African American, Latino/a American, Native American, and Asian American), females, and prospective first generation college students are strongly encouraged to apply for this educationally rich and exciting program.  CMAP is FREE, thanks to the generosity of the Tensor-SUMMA Foundation.  However, an application is required for participation and eligibility is based on the following criteria:
·       Prior Completion of Algebra II and Geometry

·       Current enrollment in a CCSD high school
·       Completed recommendation form from a math teacher
The deadline for enrollment is May 29, 2015, and admission is FREE.
