So Exquisite Charleston is in search of sponsors to support its first ever car smash. Best described as a “Car Smash for College Cash,” local businesses and organizations are needed to help award one student of the Low country with a $1500 scholarship.
“We’re looking for sponsors to help turn this event into a great success,” says Kimberly Bowman, Founder and Chief in Editor of the multi-media magazine.
So Exquisite Charleston, now a sophomore in online/digital media, will raise money for the scholarship by allowing the public to take a smash at a salvaged automobile. Traditionally, car smashes, are held to allow people to vent and take aggression out against diseases or illnesses that have affected loved ones. So Exquisite Charleston, however, will use this event as a call for action.
“When I was in college, car smashes was a popular fundraising tactic. We’d yet to experience real life, but we were always stressing about class, financial aid, money, relationships, and this list continues, Bowman stressed. “So, why not take a couple swings at this old car to let off some steam…and support a good cause?”
This summer, the public will be invited to take their anger and frustration out against the cost of higher education and student loan debt. For $1, participants can smash the car, and help a student in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.
“So Exquisite Charleston was created to motivate others to follow their dreams, and be whoever they desire. That’s why I’m very excited to offer our first scholarship,” Bowman went further to say.
The scholarship recipient will be a recent high school graduate attending a college/university in the fall; or a rising high school senior who’s been accepted to a college/university for the fall 2016 semester. So Exquisite Charleston readers and online viewers will then vote on scholarship recipient. Once the votes have been tallied, the winner will be announced at SoExquisiteCharleston.com and its social media accounts. Days leading to the event, the car, intended for destruction, will also be revealed using those same mediums.
LQK Salvage Yard of North Charleston has partnered with So Exquisite Charleston to donate the car. Bowman is also happy to announce that The Charleston Chronicle is one of the first event sponsors. “I can’t stress enough that help is needed. We need a team. We need the city behind us. I believe in the phrase, ‘it takes a village’, and we can help each other best if we come together.”
Sponsorships levels start at $125. Some of incentives will include: a vendor table, advertisement on SoExquisteCharleston.com, name/logo on marketing materials, ten complimentary car smashes, and social media recognition. In-kind donations of an assortment of hand tools, safety glasses, and gloves will be accepted in efforts to smash the car. Monetary donations are also encouraged.
By reaching out to sponsors, Bowman hopes to exceed her fundraising goals. She would like to make the car smash an annual event, and award the scholarship to two students instead of one. “I'd like to help every student in Charleston with this event! I think it’s possible!”
The “Car Smash for College Cash”, will feature live entertainment, raffles, food trucks, vendor booths, and activities for all ages. For more information about sponsorship, the car smash and/or scholarship, please contact Kimberly Bowman at , or email .
