Working together to build a better community is the theme of an upcoming free conference to be hosted by Building From the Block Up and CharlestonGOOD, two local grassroots organizations utilizing collaboration to improve outcomes on behalf of the community. The 3-Day event will take place April 2-4 at the Charleston County Public Library Auditorium.

Are you someone who loves to serve your community? Do you have great ideas for new projects? Have your run in to obstacles in your efforts to address community problems? Do you crave working with others to help our environment? Do you know of resources that can be used toward improving our community? Are you tired of working in isolation? Would like to meet and collaborate with other individuals and organizations interested in bettering our community?

If you answered 'Yes” to any of these questions, conference organizers think that #goodsharing might be just what you are looking for.

According to event organizer, Muyihidin D’baha, “How can we amplify the power of positive people doing good things? Get them all together in one room! This event will be an opportunity for the grassroots network of community builders to share, learn, collaborate, and celebrate the extra-ordinary service that is being carried out in our neighborhoods, schools, and city. Participants can expect to leave with a new vision, support, and inspiration knowing that we are transcending social barriers and working together. “

In addition to providing a meaningful conference experience, event organizers hope that this will be a catalyst for an ongoing emphasis on community collaboration and #goodsharing which they see as the best path forward for individuals and organizations trying to positively impact the world around them.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

4/2 THU 5pm-8pm

Day 1: Serving Holistically: Breaking out of Silos for Good

This day we will be re-framing our understanding of single issue service delivery into a collaborative community that serves together. 'There are no single issue lives, so our service should not be a focused on a single issue. To this end we will seek to 'weave individual initiatives and collective endeavors into patterns of unified action. To accomplish this goal we will seek to raise our collective capacity for coordinated project management. We will nurture a culture of collaboration by creating shared calendars, volunteer pools, and other technical resources.

4/3 FRI 1pm-4pm

Day 2: Vision for the future: Youth-Led Community Building

This day will feature the work and perspectives of youth empowerment specialists and our young community builders. We will all gain understanding as we witness the refreshing idealism of new eyes on persistent challenges. The youth servant leaders will also guide workshops on enhancing youth power in our work. The fruit of the day will be the formation of a Youth Builders Network created to support the work of emerging leaders from across the Lowcountry.

4/4 SAT 12pm-4pm

Day 3: Creative Collaborations w/Project Management

The final day of #goodsharing will focus on developing our ability to create novel 'projects' through consolidating the assets and connections made during the conference. We will spend the afternoon mapping the visions, passions, and resources we are all utilizing or under-utilizing in our service. Lastly, we will create newl and sustainable projects  that will be executed in the next 2 months.

Come out to join Charleston's Community of conscience as we amplify each other’s efforts with #goodsharing.
