South Carolina Federal Credit Union announces its fifth annual smpl. scholarship competition. The smpl. program provides financial education and community engagement opportunities for 15 to 25 year olds. The scholarship will award a total of $7,500 to three deserving students to use for their college education.
“As a credit union, we are very invested in the development of our membership and community, said Scott Woods, South Carolina Federal CEO. Celebrating these inspiring young people is about giving forward and commending their giving back.”
The scholarship focuses on the cooperative model of “people helping people” and asks applicants to submit an essay detailing how the guiding principle has affected their life. Applicants must also complete an online application and submit a transcript and letter of recommendation.
The scholarship is dispersed in three award sums; first prize is $4,000, second is $2,500 and third is $1,000. Selected applicants will film a video on their accomplishments to be shared via the smpl. website.
The application process is now open and interested students planning to attend college during the fall 2015 semester are encouraged to submit their application online at www.smpl.sc.com/scholarship. The application period will close March 14, 2015 and winners will be announced April 17, 2015.
Submitted applications will be reviewed by the credit union’s scholarship committee, and winners will be selected based on academic performance, school and community involvement, recommendations from school and community leaders and financial need.
