The Speedwell Foundation is now accepting applications for a full scholarship to study abroad for one year through AFS-USA in the Fall of 2015. Interested, eligible high school students ages 15 and over in Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Georgetown counties are encouraged to apply. The deadline is January 15, 2015.
AFS-USA (formerly the American Field Service), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is a leader in intercultural learning and offers international exchange programs in more than 40 countries around the world through independent, nonprofit AFS Organizations, each with a network of volunteers, a professionally staffed office, and headed up by a volunteer board.
The Speedwell Foundation provides full scholarships to qualified, academically strong high school students for an opportunity to study abroad AFS-USA and broaden their global perspectives.
With roots in Central Pennsylvania, the Speedwell Foundation AFS-USA Study Abroad Scholarships program has sent more than 100 high school students to 22 different countries. The expansion of the program to South Carolina brings this opportunity to high school students in the coastal area who wish to study abroad and become more globally minded.
To be eligible for this competitive, merit-based scholarship, you must:
o Live in or attend a high school within the 6 counties in coastal South Carolina
o Apply for a one-year high school program to a non-English speaking country**beginning in the Fall of 2015 (Information about applying for the Speedwell scholarship for programs departing in the fall of 2016 will be available in late summer 2015).
o Have a minimum 2.8 GPA by the time of application
