North Charleston City Gallery Exhibit - Mount Pleasant Artist Guild 

Members of the Mount Pleasant Artist Guild will present a group show of works featuring a variety of subjects. Comprised of artists from throughout the East Cooper area and beyond, the guild’s membership includes artists of all levels of expertise expressing their talents in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, mixed media, and more. The public is invited to attend a free reception hosted by the artists on Thursday, December 4, from 5:00-7:00pm.

North Charleston City Hall Exhibit - Mary Johnson Voss

Local artist Mary Johnson Voss will present oils, watercolors, and pastels in her exhibit A Kaleidoscope World.  "Kaleidoscope" comes from the Greek word Kalos which refers to beauty.  In our vernacular it means a constantly changing set of colors caused by mirrors.  In Mary's world it represents the constantly changing beauty of God's creation as presented by her art.

North Charleston City Hall Exhibit – North Charleston Artist Guild

The North Charleston Artist Guild will present their winter showcase in the exhibit, Inspire to Create: Create to Inspire.  Members of the guild will display works from painting to mixed media to sculpture.  The public is invited to attend a free reception hosted by the artists on Friday, December 5, from 5:00-7:00pm.

National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition

The ninth annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition FY 14/15 is currently installed at the stunning North Charleston Riverfront Park.  The eleven month exhibition features eleven established and emerging artists from seven states displaying imaginative and thought provoking sculpture.  Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among ten acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, playground, and children’s play fountain. Organized and presented by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.

Children’s Theatre - The Elves and the Shoemaker

The classic Brothers Grimm story takes the stage as an original musical with new lyrics set to traditional holiday melodies.  An elf must help a poor shoemaker with assistance from some of the elves in the audience. Don Gruel & Noel Holland of Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth have been touring throughout the U.S. since 1995, giving hundreds of performances for more than 70,000 audience members annually. Performance best for grades K-5.

Adults ages 18 and up will receive one-on-one assistance from seasoned artist and art instructor, Deborah Meyer, to develop and refine paintings that they currently have in progress or that are ready to be tackled.  Students must bring their own materials: paints, brushes, canvases, easels (if use of table is not preferred).

Dance Workshop – African Dance with Queen Atterberry

Workshop – Stained Glass Mosaic Jewelry

Adults ages 18 and up can show off their creativity by making a one-of-kind mosaic necklace with Rachel Jones.  Students will learn the basics of mosaics, which involves creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, tile, stone, or other materials. The result will be a wearable work of art - a great holiday gift!  No experience necessary. Materials provided.

City of North Charleston’s Christmas Festival & Parade

This annual city event is a holiday gift to the community.  Families, friends, and neighbors share the joys of the season through delightful entertainment, a holiday market, children’s activities, carriage rides, festive food and decorations, thousands of twinkling lights, visits with Santa, and an evening parade.  Park Circle, the Felix Davis Community Center, the surrounding traffic circle, and major thoroughfares are lined with lighted snowflakes, Christmas trees, and magical holiday scenes. Christmas Parade begins at 5:00pm, preceded by tree lighting by the Mayor and Santa in front of the Felix Davis Community Center.  Ample parking is available on the islands around Park Circle.  Rain or shine.

North Charleston Arts Festival Participation Opportunities (NOTE: Application release date & deadline moved up one month!)

National, regional, and local artists and performers in the areas of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, photography, crafts, media arts and literature are welcome to apply to participate in the 2015 North Charleston Arts Festival, May 1-9.  This annual nine-day celebration of the arts provides over 30,000 residents and visitors with an array of free and moderately priced performances, exhibitions and activities that take place throughout North Charleston and the surrounding area. In addition to the Artist Application, local youth performing artists may also consider applying for the Opening Processional, which has kicked off the Arts Festival’s Main Event festivities for over ten years!  Processional participants include groups dressed in brightly colored outfits and costumes, volunteers carrying giant puppets, banners and other crafted props, jugglers, dance troupes, and local performing groups. Participants parade around the Convention Center Complex into the North Charleston Performing Arts Center Auditorium where the celebration continues with a Community Groups Performance Spotlight, featuring performances by pre-selected groups.  Both applications will be available on October 1 and can be downloaded at NorthCharlestonArtsFest.com/apply. There is no fee to apply.

2015 North Charleston Arts Festival Design Competition

South Carolina visual artists are invited to submit entries for consideration as the official design of the 2015 North Charleston Arts Festival. The selected design will become part of the City’s Public Art Collection and will be featured in all advertising and promotional material, including thousands of program booklets, hundreds of t-shirts, and print & broadcast media. The winning artist will be awarded $500 and will be recognized in special press releases as well as during the Artist Reception of the Festival.  There will also be an opportunity for the artist to exhibit original works at the North Charleston City Gallery during the 2015 Festival.  Application will be available on November 15 and can be accessed at www.northcharlestonculturalartsdepartment.slideroom.com.

2015/16 National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition

The 10th Annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition will be installed at the stunning North Charleston Riverfront Park from May 2015-March 2016.  Sculptors from across the nation are welcome to submit an application for participation. Up to 14 imaginative and thought provoking outdoor sculptures are juried into the 11-month exhibition and compete for cash prizes totaling up to $16,250. Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among ten acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, an oversized sandbox and children’s play area. The application will be available on December 1 and can be downloaded at NorthCharlestonArtsFest.com/apply.

2015 SC Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition

The 14th annual South Carolina Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition will be on display at the Charleston Area Convention Center (5001 Coliseum Drive, North Charleston, SC 29418) from May 1-9, 2014, during the North Charleston Arts Festival. Fine craft artists and artisans from across South Carolina are welcome to submit an application for participation. As the state’s only fine craft competition and exhibition, objects juried into the exhibit may compete for cash prizes totaling up to $6,500.  The application will be available on December 15 and can be downloaded at NorthCharlestonArtsFest.com/apply.
