Redy to Wear Party: The pre-party for the October 24th Red Party was quite the fête! The French Renaissance theme event included a silent auction of custom hand painted party masks and hand crafted fans. A South African safari and personal wine tasting for 20 were also among the silent auction items. The winner of the Signature Cocktail Contest for the Red Party was chosen during the event. Mixologist and contest finalist Justin Edgar of Zero Café (0 George Street) and Taylor Grant of Palace Hotel (35 Hanover Street) presented the respective cocktails to attendees vying for their vote and the $500 prize. The winner also received a custom bar tool from Barbarian bar tools and their competition cocktail featured at the 6th annual Red Party at the Old City Jail (21 Magazine Street). At the end of the evening, the votes were tallied, the Red Scare, cocktail created by Justin Edgar was the winner! Congratulations Justin! See you at the Red Party. Cougar Caravan: College of Charleston alumni convened on the recently renovated Palmetto Brewery last Wednesday. We were greeted by Cougarettes and College of Charleston basketball mascot, Clyde the Cougar. The social was organized to introduce alumnus to the newly appointed head of men’s basketball coach Earl Grant and women’s basket ball coach, Candice Jackson. We were treated to appetizers and draft beer from Palmetto Brewery, the oldest brewery in South Carolina. Also in attendance, college basketball legend, John Kresse. Seeing all that maroon and gold during the event brought about a sense of school pride that light the entire venue. Go Cougars!

Travel Council Reception: Whenever we venture into Boone Hall Plantation, I become flush with emotion. Such a beautiful and historic location is the perfect backdrop for an informal meeting on travel and tourism in Charleston. We viewed the recently completed mycharlestonly.com video featuring The Jazz Man, Charlton Singleton. The three minutes video brought many in attendance to tears as the images captured majestic views of historic Rainbow Row and beautiful beaches. We were quickly reminded how lucky we are to live in Charleston. After a few updates from the Travel Council board, attendees were encouraged to network while enjoying the open bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres. The view from the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation was serene and seemed to persuade us all to stay and socialize a bit longer than expected. The next Travel Council meeting is November 11th at Montague Terrace from 4 – 6pm. For more about the Travel Council or tourism in Charleston, visit www.explorecharleston.com
