Hearts for Hospitality: Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction pre-party Palmetto Palace is a non-profit organization that provides support to families who have loved ones receiving long term care in Charleston area hospitals. The organization issues food stipends, hotel vouchers and toiletries to the mothers, sisters and children of individuals being treated in the intensive care units. These individuals are not eligible for assistance from other organization like Ronald McDonald. Palmetto Palace’s founder Youlanda Gibbs has received tremendous support from the community for her upcoming date auction fundraiser, Hearts for Hospitality. The event this past Friday was a precursor to the October 16th event at the Charleston Music Hall from 6 – 10pm. Tickets are $30 and all the proceeds support Palmetto Palace’s initiative. Meeting of the Mindz: If you’re looking for an open mic session that displays amazing local talent, add the Meeting of the Mindz to your schedule. Event coordinator, Colorz Ramadan organizes a monthly gathering for performers to showcase their skills. We were entertained by a solo guitarist and several singers giving their interpretation of soul, gospel and reggae music. The event hosts, J-Vive and Neisha the Poet did an excellent job keeping the crowd energized between every performance. The October event will feature only female performers. Alpha Hour: The Summerville chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha hosted a happy hour social at Aloft hotel last Friday. The gentleman provided light refreshments and a few games like oversized Jenga. The group socialized over cocktails and soft music in Aloft’s beautiful lobby and lounge. The event was definitely up lived up to their Gold Standard.

Ciroc Pineapple Launch Party: The creators of the popular liquor brand, Ciroc has added a new flavor to their spirit line, Pineapple. The Ciroc brand has been extremely successful with the help of celebrity endorser like P Diddy. The Ciroc team has had a long standing presence in Charleston bringing specialty event to the area to celebrate the spirit. Pineapple saw has the same great taste associated with the Ciroc brand with a tropical twist. The party was held a King Street Grille in West Ashley on Friday, September 12. The event host treated guest to complimentary Ciroc Pineapple and several Ciroc fedora hats. Dj Q Ram played great music throughout the entire evening. The Ciroc brand has other event scheduled for the Charleston area. We can’t wait!

Black Law Students Association Back to School Reception: The students of color at Charleston School of Law celebrated the start of another year of legal study by gathering at Prohibition bar on Saturday. The restaurant provided delicious hors d’oeuvres and drink specials which helped everyone unwind. The Law School has seen a lot of change over the last year, so it was a pleasure seeing its student body congregating in good spirits. CSOL has made efforts to increase its minority enrollment. As an alumnus, I’m proud to see more diversity in the legal profession. BLSA is always looking to partner with area legal professionals. Fabrizia Competition Launch Party: Fabrizia has challenged Charleston area mixologist to create an original cocktail using their signature product Limoncello and Blood Orange liqueur. The competition takes place in November when the judges visit Charleston to sample the creative cocktails. Fabrizia has organized a pretty swaggy grand prize; a three day, two night trip for two to Boston (all expenses paid), personal tour of the Fabrizia Spirit’s facility, dinner accommodations and admission to the Boston Wine Expo. The featured bartender from Boston created three custom cocktails for the event. Each displayed the wide use of both the Limoncello and the Blood Orange liqueurs. Not to be outdone, Radeberger and Schofferhofer craft imported beer was also hosting an event at Bay Street Biergarten. The German beer company was debuting its beverage for the first time in South Carolina during the Charleston Beer Week festivities. The Schofferhofer beer uses ruby red grapefruit to create its unique flavor profile while the Radeberger has a clean and traditional pilsner taste. With so many mixologist in attendance, it was only a matter of time before someone created a drink using both the Fabrizia and the Schofferhofer. 22 of us line up at the bar to chug the just created bomb (1 oz of Fabrizia Limoncello dropped into 4 oz of Schofferhofer). What a perfect way to end a night of making new friends and being introduced to a new mixer; let the creative juices flow.
