City Gallery Exhibit

Concurrent solo exhibitions. Local artist, Christine Bush Roman, will present Little Ones, a collection of abstract works created through a variety of media, including acrylic, fabric, ink, pastel, paper, spray paint, and more. Her work emphasizes color, texture, pattern, and symbols while exploring themes relating to human behavior.  In Messages, Nancy Wyman Ray, of Rock Hill, SC, will present abstract works of ink on paper, featuring high contrast designs and a variety of textures, depths, and values. The public is invited to attend a free reception hosted by the artists on Thursday, September 4, from 5:00-7:00pm.

The Meeting Place Window Exhibit

Local artist, Mary Wilson, presents Coastal Impressions, featuring a collection of landscapes and nature scenes in oil. Wilson is a member of the Charleston Artist Guild and has exhibited her work locally, including at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival and Art for Arthritis auction. The public is invited to attend a free reception hosted by the artist on Saturday, September 6, from 3:00-5:00pm.

National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition

The ninth annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition FY 14/15 is currently installed at the stunning North Charleston Riverfront Park.  The eleven month exhibition features eleven established and emerging artists from seven states displaying imaginative and thought provoking sculpture.  Visitors can enjoy the sculpture displays among ten acres of walking paths, a fishing pier, boardwalk, playground, and children’s play fountain. Organized and presented by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department.

North Charleston Farmers Market Concerts

The North Charleston Farmers Market takes place every Thursday through October 31. Offerings include an abundance of fresh, locally grown produce, food vendors, art & craft booths, and rotating entertainment. Enjoy live music every 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Thursday. Shrimp City Slim will perform Lowcountry blues at the September 4 market. The September 18 market will feature blues originals by Rev. Marv Ward. Enjoy electrifying blues harmonica by Juke Joint Johnny on September 25.

Dinner Theatre - The Reunion: A Lil Mo’ Motown Magic

The old gang gets together for a reunion two dinner theatre seasons later to find that the local senior center has lost their headliner for the weekend’s Soul Café Cabaret.  Full of passion and compassion, the Mo’ Motown Magic crew quickly decides that one way or another, the show must go on!  Presented by Donna Lee Williams & Remnant Productions, this program is filled with the smooth sounds of Motown and many favorite soul hits from the 60s and 70s that are sure to lift your spirits and cause you to shake, rattle and roll! Menu includes sage buttered & roasted slices of pork tenderloin with mustard & caper sauce. Catered by Embassy Suites.

Tickets: $40 each, group discounts available. $12 for play only.

Sweetgrass Basket Weaving Workshop

Adult participants will learn the basics of the historical art form of sweetgrass basket weaving with Trudy Hicks.  Hicks, one of Charleston's finest sweetgrass basket makers, was taught this unique form of art as a child and works to pass on the tradition to her own children, grandchildren and others in the community. Materials are provided.

Fee: $15.  Registration open one month to two days prior to class. Call 843-740-5854.

Farmers Market Art Organization Awareness – Charleston Regional Arts Alliance

Enjoy live demonstrations by local visual artists and/or learn about area arts organizations every 2nd Thursday of the month. The Charleston Regional Arts Alliance will share information about their organization and its members at the September 11 market.
