Yelp Gets Handsy Kick-off Party: Yelp Charleston is encouraging every to get handsy! During the next few weeks, Yelpers are invited to get handsy and give back to the community. A full schedule of arts and crafts related events at local business all over the Charleston area. All the events are free and include great food and an open bar! Yelpers are asked to leave a small donation to a Charleston non-profit and leave an experience review, of course! The kick-off took place at the newly opened Charleston Distilling Co on 501 King Street. The bar featured specialty craft cocktails and 167 Raw set up an awesome seafood display featuring a boat shaped raw bar full of ice, hand-shucked oysters and cocktail shrimp. Spacecraft and Rock, Paper, Scissors kept guest busy with wooden coaster painting and custom button making projects. We walked away with tons of Yelp giveaways, including a super cool flask and chap stick. Great event Yelp Charleston, check out to see the full Yelp Gets Handsy schedule to join the fun!

Lowcountry Local First GOOD Business Summit: The Charleston Museum was full of area business owners eager to learn about good business practices. The summit panels featured some of Charleston’s most recognizable companies like High Wire Distillery, Rewined Candles and Charleston Gourmet Burger Co. We heard stories of great triumph and crushing failure. ; but mostly importantly, stories of resolve and beating the odds. It was great to be in an environment where it is appropriate to ask the tough questions like, where do you find funding for your start-up business, how to effectively market your product and when to hire additional employees. Often times entrepreneurs are expected to know all the questions. It was comforting to know that you’re not the only one having thoughts of doubt and that support is available. The GOOD Business Summit had refreshments available all day for Coastal Coffee Roasters, Caviar & Bananas and Verde. Lowcountry Local First has made a commitment to bringing businesses in the Charleston area together and the Good Business Summit is a set in the right direction.

Festival of Beers: The Festival of Beers was an experience to remember. It was located at beautiful Riverdog Stadium in downtown Charleston. The event was filled with tons of beer; there were local, regional, and national breweries passing out samples of their product. The food trucks were out with delicious food to try, people were sitting on the grass enjoying their treats and entertainment. And, despite the hot weather, the crowd was energetic and enthusiastic about all of the beer festivities. We enjoyed events like cornhole, oversized beer pong, and water gunning. Finally, there was a great band that had everyone dancing all night, and there was a silent disco was available to hear different music as well. It was a great event; we can’t wait to see what they bring next year!

Signature Cocktail Contest 1.1 at Muse: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité by Andrew Childers at Muse Charleston was delicious. A wonderful combination of Larceny Bourbon, Pama Liqueur, Absinthe, fresh lemon juice and local honey. He has a great shot at winning the grand prize of $500. Muse is a charming restaurant that serves delicious food. Stop by some time. Check out the Charleston Cocktail Bandits Facebook page for a complete listing of all the Signature Cocktail Contest tasting dates. All the tastings are free of charge with free samples.
