Prioleau Street’s famed Harbour Club embedded the Hawaiian essence July 26 for its 20th anniversary celebration. The private-held business and social organization opened its doors to the public for a pleasant time out reminiscent of a night in Honolulu.

Leis and pina coladas greeted guests as soon as they entered the building and signed in. The club garnished the interior with beach-themed decorations. The second and third floors held the main party.

The Harbour Club’s second floor second held a photo booth, dance floor in the Prioleau Ballroom, an immaculate ice sculpture with the club’s logo, and food such as pastries, Spam sliders, coconut rice with shrimp and scallops, and fresh tuna prepared six different ways. The tuna tartare was a big hit among attendees. The menu was conceived by Executive Chef Travis Overholt.

The third floor’s roof top setting allowed for the grilling of banana leaf smoked mahi-mahi and a pig roasted on a spit accompanied with Hawaiian sweet rolls and mango barbeque sauce. Tropical drinks like Bahama Mamas, June Bugs, and Mai Tais were imbibed on the side.

The dance floor’s soundtrack reintroduced favorites from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Being a joyous outing, it could not be complete with Marcia Griffiths’ seminal number “Electric Boogie” with the Electric Slide dance performed by most in attendance. Even a limbo competition was held, which ended in a tie after a lighthearted battle.

The Harbour Club, part of the international ClubCorp, works as a membership-driven association that seeks to build relationships with networking, entertaining, and dining possibilities. Year-round, they host events like wedding receptions, corporate functions, and mixers. Members of the club receive exclusive access to golf courses, hotel discounts, and affiliated restaurant deals. To become a member, one would need to be sponsored by a current member.

The friendly atmosphere permeated the affair as plentiful laughs and great eats made life seem easy for a time. And judging by several trips to the club before and after the event, the camaraderie seems infectious. The Harbour Club executed a beautiful bash and deserves a well-earned toast to its existence.
