Every six-and-a-half minutes last week, one of Charleston County's homeless animals was adopted by a new, loving family.
Charleston Animal Society's Great American Rescue Event was so successful, the free adoption campaign will be extended for another week. Through August 3rd, come to 2455 Remount Road and find the pet of your dreams-- with all adoption fees waived.
"The turnout for the record-breaking adoption event shows a strong commitment by our friends and neighbors to keep Charleston the first No Kill Community in the Southeast," said Charleston Animal Society Chief Executive Officer Joe Elmore.
Right now Charleston Animal Society still has more than 400 animals in its system, some at the shelter and many more out with foster families. Summer months are historically the most challenging for animal rescue organizations, because spring litters are now old enough to adopt.
"Fee-waived adoption events our are way of giving back to a community that loves animals," said Charleston Animal Society Community Engagement Director Kay Hyman, "earlier this month we were named the best dog town in the Southeast and I think the success of this event helps to prove that."
All animals at Charleston Animal Society come with:
-A complete medical exam
-Spayed or Neutered
Charleston Animal Society is the only animal rescue in South Carolina that performs a research-based behavioral assessment, by a trained assessor, on every animal.
