Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church is celebrating its 148th anniversary. Two upcoming events are the History of   Morris Brown AME Church will be narrated by Dr. Bernard   Powers. He is a well-­-known author and faculty   member at the College of Charleston. Musical performances will be presented  by the Morris Brown Musical Arts Ministry. This event will be held   at  the church which is located at  13 Morris Street in downtown Charleston, Wednesday, July  16th at 7:00 PM. Our second program is Sons & Daughters of Morris Brown AME Church that   will feature   guest   preacher Rev. Brent LaPrince Edwards,   St.   James AME Church, Asheville, North Carolina. The Charleston Branch NAACP will hold its monthly General Membership Meeting at 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 24, 2014 in the fellowship hall of Morris Brown AME Church, 13 Morris Street. The meeting will include a Town Hall session, when those who feel that they have been racially profiled by the Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff’s Department will have the opportunity to be heard, so that the Branch can determine whether a request for investigation will be made to the United States Department of Justice. Chartered in 1917, the Charleston Branch is the oldest and one of the largest and most diverse NAACP Branches in South Carolina. All members of the NAACP and citizens who want to be a part of making a difference in reducing the number of homicides in our community are welcome and are encouraged to attend this very important meeting.
