Gus Macker Basketball Tournament returns to the Lowcountry in July
6/25/2014 4:49:44 PM

The DAE Foundation, along with the North Charleston Recreation Department, will host the 2014 Gus Macker of Charleston Basketball Tournament (The Macker) on July 19th and 20th at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Macker, presented by Homegrown Hospitality Group, is a family event for basketball players of all skill levels. The Tournament returns to Charleston for the first time in 20 years.

“DAE is excited to have the community unite through the game of basketball,” says Jermel President, founder of the DAE Foundation. “Several local businesses have joined our campaign to support student-athletes in the Lowcountry. We hope the city will come and join the fun!”

Spectators can expect more than a few hours of hoops. The festival styled event is fun for the whole family: local food trucks, music by DJ Natty Heavy, Media Celebrity Tip-off Game, cheer and dance clinic by C3 Cheer and Dance, a Dream Court for children under the age of seven and more! In addition to the eventful weekend, participants wearing a Gus Macker shirt or wristband will receive food specials Saturday and Sunday at Southside 17: Tanger Outlets.

Teams can register online before June 30th at www.macker.com for $148. Proceeds will benefit DAE Foundation’s student-athlete program, The Oatmeal Recipe.

DAE’s mission is to educate and train student-athletes to become skilled, effective and responsible citizens of their communities. DAE addresses the needs of student-athletes in a holistic manner, combining innovative basketball skills training with an emphasis on moral character, academic progress, and overall physical and mental health.
