The Carolina Team 843 AAU Basketball Travel Team is preparing for competition in the 2014 AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Boys Basketball Division I & II National Championship Tournament in Little Rock, Arkansas to take place July 9-14. The team is currently seeking sponsors to fund their trip to compete with the best talent around the country.

The team is designed to introduce, teach and develop the fundamentals of basketball to local youth as well as to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition. The travel team also focuses on the importance of family values, drug and alcohol awareness and academic achievement.

Players that participate are provided with academic assistance including tutoring for subjects that they need help with to help create a valuable learning experience to help them succeed in the future.

“So far we have done fundraisers such as car washes every Saturday, ticket raffles, crab cracks and selling dinners to help raise some money, but we still have a long way to go. If we could just get some good sponsors to help get us get over the hump and get to Arkansas, we could be on our way to compete for another trophy,” said guard Bryan Ward.

Sponsorships help the team off-set the costs of the tournament which includes registration fees, travel expenses, equipment, insurance, awards and uniforms.

“It would mean a lot to me if we were provided the opportunity to compete against the best players in the world. We have an opportunity to grow on and off the basketball court and keep us in a positive environment instead of being in the streets,” said point guard Michael Dukes that also plays the position at First Baptist. “Basketball is my life and we need the support of the community to help us acheive our goals. I think we have a good chance of winning it all.”

Carolina Team 843 recently was victorious at the PQ?Sports Super Regional Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia where they won first place in March. “That was a great feeling to win the Super Regional. We worked hard in practice and it definitely paid off,” said forward Adonicas Saunders who also plays for the Burke High School Boys Varsity team.

The team will continue raising money with fundraisers up until the week of July 8th when the national tournament will begin.
