The Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Gospel Choir is pleased to present a concert theme honoring Sadie Green Oglesby, local African-American television pioneer, Saturday, May 24, 2014, 5:00pm at Emanuel AME Church, 110 Calhoun Street, downtown Charleston as part of the 2014 Piccolo Spoleto opening weekend.
This performance will honor the life and legacy of Ms. Oglesby, educator and television innovator who became the first black person to host a television program in Charleston with WCSC Live-5 News (CBS affiliate). She inspired many academic achievers during her teaching years at Avery and Burke High Schools.
Attaining legendary status in the education community as a superb English and Latin teacher, she was hand-picked by television giant John Rivers, Sr., founder of WCSC-TV, the first television station in Charleston, in 1953. WSCS-TV remains the oldest continuous television station in the state of South Carolina.
