African American art quilters from across the nation are invited to participate in the 8th Annual African American Fiber Art Exhibition: JOY!, a component of the 2014 North Charleston Arts Festival. This year’s exhibition calls for art quilts inspired by the emotion of joy. Joy can be seen in the eyes of a child or felt while dancing; it can be heard in an exuberant holler when we hear fantastic news or in a squeal of delight when receiving a surprise gift.  We can express the JOY! in many ways. When we feel JOY! we feel great about ourselves. We feel confident, powerful, capable, loved and fulfilled. The challenge for this year’s exhibition is to show the world your JOY! through an art quilt. Entries may be hand or machine quilted and should be no smaller than 25" square and no larger than 60"x 40". Quilts must have been completed after 12-1-2012. Embellishment is encouraged! Organized and presented by the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, and curated by Torreah “Cookie” Washington, this unique opportunity offers African American art quilters a showcase to exhibit their original and innovative designs.
