I Love Charleston
Originally from Cuba, Maribel Acosta moved to Charleston and fell in love with the city’s landscape, people and peaceful streets. “Like Cuba, the presence of African heritage is clear and strong,” Acosta says. “There is a common point with memories. The palm trees bring back memories for me, and I feel enchanted by this city.”

Gullah Folk Art Display by Jery Taylor

Best known for her sweetgrass basket weaving, Jery Taylor also is an accomplished folk art painter. A native of Mt. Pleasant, Taylor’s themes depict the vibrant colors and gentle lifestyles inherent in her Gullah roots and culture.
