Today the sun is shining as I make my way down the Great Ole Smokey Mountains on my way back home. Yesterday, it rained. What a difference a day makes. The same can be said for a year. Ready or not 2014 is knocking at the backdoor of 2013 begging “lemme in”. As close as the New Year may be some of us will be around to ring in the new and others will go out with the old. Nothing in life is certain but death. As morbid as it may sound, life always give way to death; youth gives way to old age; joy gives way to pain; love gives way to hate; and the old year gives way to the new. Nothing remains the same.

In 2013, the long awaited health care act was rolled out and The Affordable Health Care coverage rolled in for millions of Americans without coverage. The unemployment rate fell from 7.8% in December 2012 to 7% in November 2013. According to CoreLogic, “there were 55,000 completed foreclosures in the U.S. in June 2013, down from 68,000 in June 2012, a year-over-year decrease of 20 percent”. All are indicators that the economy is rebounding as economists predicted 2014 would be the turn around year.

I don’t know how well y’all coped but 2013 was a rough year for me. I lost several friends and former co-workers and was hospitalized with a major illness but in all things I give thanks and look forward to 2014.

It’s been at least a decade or two since I stopped making resolutions and promises that I can’t deliver. Instead, I assess where I am in terms of where I need to be and work on improving those things. I work on attitude adjustments and lack of altitude.

Now that 2014 is about to make its debut; changes are inevitable and with the New Year comes new beginnings. Thanks for your support and encouragement over the years. I did a little something especially for you, my readers, entitled

I DANCED IN 2013

I wish for you prosperity and wealth
And a house to call your home;
A house full of love and good health
And a big yard for children to roam.

I wish for you employment
Opportunities and less stress
Music, laughter, contentment
And a life free of clutter and mess.

I wish that you find time to dance
And sing along to your favorite song;
Leaving nothing per chance
Including those you hurt or wrong.

I wish the sun shines on your parade
And you reap more than you sow;
Strive hard to make the grade
And learn all that you need and more.

I wish that you gain more than you loss
And that you find the joy in giving;
Sometimes it is better to count your costs
So you can find the joy in living.

Life isn’t over until you are done;
So, let bygones be bygones.
Dance in the rain; have some fun
And create within your heart a new song.

Happy New Year 2014; See Ya next year!
Y’all Be Safe, Ya Hear …..
