The Charleston, SC Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. held its annual Card and Bingo Party last month which is an event event is held every year to raise funds to support community-based programs in health, education, recreation, employment, and arts and humanities.
This year, however, the fundraiser held another purpose. In addition to enjoying an afternoon of food and fun, every person that purchased a ticket was asked to bring a new stuffed animal to be donated to the MUSC Children’s Hospital.
This idea was overwhelmingly supported by all attendees and hundreds of stuffed animals were collected and donated to the MUSC Children’s Hospital in the name of Vannetta Etheredge, a charter member who died earlier this year of cancer.
Vannetta Etheredge loved and supported children. She made it her life’s work to ensure that students learned how to read.
She was the first coordinator for the “Charleston Book Buddies” and she also served as a volunteer with children at Mary Ford Elementary, Sanders Clyde Elementary, Apple Charter and the Charleston Development Academy.
The Charleston Continentals plan to make this donation of new stuffed animals to the MUSC Children’s Hospital an annual event in collaboration with the annual Card and Bingo Party.
They have named this event “Van’s Stuffed Animals for Children’s Health and Happiness”.
The donation was appreciated by all the children and staff at the hospital.
The Charleston Continentals would like to thank the public for their continued support.
